Mission Summary
Disgraced Captain Michael Turlogh Kane has been reinstated by Admiral Edgerton, Chief of Starfleet Intelligence, and been granted command of the USS DISCOVERY, newly retrofitted and recommissioned. He and his crew are sent to investigate a Federation subspace signal emanating from system K-60, inside the Beta Quadrant in order to determine the source of the subspace signal. Their first stop: Station 855, a listening post orbiting the dead world of Suvin IV.
Upon arrival, the crew of the DISCOVERY learns that somebody has sabotaged the station in an attempt to obscure the data. To complicate matters, a compliment of Marines is attached to the ship, but to Kane's dismay. After a brief investigation of the Station, the crew makes the two week journey into the Beta Quadrant.
Located in binary star system, the single enormous gas giant world, K-60's features include a ring, and hundreds of asteroids and planetoids orbiting the gas giant at farther distances than the ring itself. Several of these bodies are large enough to be counted as shepherd moons, one of which appears to have its own atmosphere. The small gravity wells of these moons keep the gas giant's ring even by reflecting any material that drift away from the huge planet. Having completed their journey here, the crew of the DISCOVERY discovers two subspace signals emanating from a point in orbit of one the gas giant's moons, K-60-Alpha-Twelve. Though treacherous, the DISCOVERY braves debris and asteroids to come in orbit around the moon, and discover, to their surprise, the hulk of the ship known as the USS CENTURY.
Commander Stonn, Commander Crichton, Lieutenant Rochemonte, Captain Thytos, and the contingent of marines beam aboard the CENTURY to explore the remains and determine how it came to its final fate. While on board, the away team discovers that the CENTURY had been deliberately shut down by an unknown entity, killing the crew. Upon examination of the crew, the team learns that they are comprised of criminal, degenerate, or supposedly long dead Star Fleet officers, to include one Rear Admiral Dupree.
