THE TELLARITE MINING CONSORTIUM

With an enormous of amount of Tellar's water table being underground, Tellarite engineering became quite advanced over the centuries. Around the same time as they united their planet under one government, the TELLARITE MINING CONSORTIUM was also formed to explore and exploit intergalactic mining opportunities. The Consortium became politically powerful by appointing Tellarite politicians to its board of directors, and soon much of Tellar's space exploration was focused on seeking out new industrial resources in neighbouring star systems.

This eventually brought the Tellarites into economic conflict with the Andorians, and relations with between the two species quickly became unfriendly. They remained that way until Human mediation in the 2150s brought Tellarites and Andorians closer together by showing how Andorian military strength could protect Tellarite industrial interests.

Today, the Tellarite Mining Consortium is still in existence, but has a much more diminished role, operating as a local representative of the Federation's Department of Industry. It also takes on advisory roles, educating both new and existing Federation members about the importance of safe, sustainable heavy industry.
