61 CYGNI V (TELLAR PRIME)

61 Cygni V, also known as TELLAR PRIME, is the fifth planet of the binary Cygni system. It is a class M planet, with size and gravity comparable to Earth standard. It is the home of the Tellarites, a warp-capable humanoid species who are one of the founding members of the United Federation of Planets.

The 61 Cygni system is centred by a pair or red dwarf stars that orbit each other at a distance of 659 light years. The stars, although dim, are nevertheless close enough and bright enough to be seen from Earth's sky with the naked eye.

Tellar Prime is the only class M world in the nine-planet system. It has two moons, and its surface has around 40% water. However, there is much more water located underground, because Tellar Prime's continental shelves overhang the oceans instead of sloping downward underneath them. This enormous amount of underground water means that there is less evaporation into the atmosphere, giving Tellar Prime very little rain. By comparison, because the underground water table is filtered through the mineral-rich crust of the planet, it is of excellent quality.

Today, a population of some seven billion Tellarites lives on their homeworld. The planet is a bastion of heavy industry, which in the past caused some environmental damage, but which has since been repaired. Shipbuilding is the primary industry, with the famous Tellar Prime Shipyards in orbit. Starbase 223, a state-of-the-art Starfleet space station, is also in orbit.
