THE CAIRON IMPERIUM

The CAIRON IMPERIUM is an extra-dimensional power that also has an outpost in this universe. Located in dimension 000-036-015, the Cairon (pictured) are pale-skinned humanoids who administer the Imperium.

The Imperium is politically and militarily powerful, numbering some 150 star systems. It is divided into three zones - outer, middle, and core. The majority of the Imperium's inhabitants live in the densely-populated core worlds; by contrast, the outer worlds are sparsely populated and mainly used for generating the resources the core worlds need to consume. The government of the Imperium is dictatorial, run by an Imperator and an appointed group of five Consuls.

Rather than use a Dimensional-drive in their starships, the Imperium uses what they refer to as a Dimensional Travel Port. These specially-constructed portals work the same as a starship's D-drive, but they are static devices and hang in space (or are constructed on the ground) waiting for a starship to pass through them.

The Cairons themselves do not practice gender or racial discrimination. Their society is tightly structured, however, with clearly-defined life-paths put in place for all Cairon when they are children, based on a series of assessment tests, and no movement between the life-paths is permitted.

First Contact with the Cairon Imperium was by the USS Prophecy in 2416. Although the Cairon were welcoming of diplomatic relations with the Federation, they used the data that the Prophecy had shared with them to send a colonisation mission into our universe. This mission ended up in the Gamma Quadrant, located near the boundaries of the Borg Federation and the Dominion, and immediately made contact with both governments. The colonisation team's first job was to construct a Dimensional Travel Port on the Imperium's new world.

The Cairon Imperium's colony still exists, but it is very small. The Borg maintain a watch on it from afar and messages are occasionally exchanged with them, but the ultimate goal of the Cairon in this dimension is not known. By this stage, they must also have made contact with the Dominion, and the fact that their colony still exists may point to an arrangement of some kind with the Founders. This may prove to be a worrying development for both the United Federation of Planets and their allies in the Borg Federation, especially if such an agreement involves the sharing of dimension-hopping technology.
