THE GREAT LINK

The Omarion Nebula in the Gamma Quadrant contains a rogue planetoid. On this planetoid lives the entity known as the GREAT LINK - the pooling of the collective consciousness of the Founders of the Dominion.

No-one knows how many Founders there are. In their natural liquid state they are able to mingle together like one ocean, that shares experiences and thoughts, and can make collective decisions. When one Founder detaches from the Link, she carries with her the racial imperative of the Founders as a whole. Founders too long separated from the Great Link can become too individualistic and lose their deep-seated empathy for one another.

The Great Link is the capital of the Dominion and acts as the very basis of its society. From here, individual Founders emerge to carry their collective will to one of their servitor races (the Vorta or Jem'Hadar).

The Battle of the Omarion Nebula, a precursor to the First Dominion War, marked the last time a foreign power has entered the nebula. No Starfleet vessels penetrated the nebula in the second conflict, and even the Dominion Civil War of 2412 did not result in the loss of the Founders' homeworld.

Today, the Great Link is presumed to still remain on its homeworld in the Omarion Nebula. Modern sightings of Founders are very rare, and it is unknown how many have left the Link since the end of the Second Dominion War (2422-2424). It is possible that they continue their old ways of infiltrating and manipulating the societies of their enemies - if so, then they remain one of the most dangerous of the Federation's enemies.
