THE JEM'HADAR

The JEM'HADAR are a genetically engineered servitor race of the Dominion. They are bred for one reason - to wage war. They are a fearsome fighting force and deadly enemies.

Born in birthing chambers and engineered to grow to maturity in three days, each male Jem'Hadar (there are no females) is the product of generations of genetic tinkering. They require no nourishment, no sleep, possess excellent eyesight and physical strength, and worship the Founders as living gods. They are soldiers first and only - they crew the warships of the Dominion and make up its ground forces.

Through their genetic engineering, the Jem'Hadar are all addicted to a drug named ketracel-white. This is to ensure their loyalty to the Founders, but without access to a steady supply of the drug, a Jem'Hadar will eventually die.

Their own culture prizes martial prowess and personal honour. Very few Jem'Hadar live to be more than twenty years old, most dying young in battle. This has led to the importance of ritual in their lives - Jem'Hadar have rituals for many occasions in their short lives, including many battle rituals. Their rank structure is a simple numerical system, and their armour and weapons are all identical.

They remain one of the most feared fighting forces in the galaxy. The Federation has faced them twice in wartime, and each victory has been won by paying a heavy price in Starfleet lives. No-one is looking forward to the day when they must do it again.
