STARFLEET COMMAND

Although the President of the United Federation of Planets is its Commander-in-Chief, and it is monitored by civilian Secretary, Starfleet's daily operating authority is STARFLEET COMMAND.

Starfleet Command is located in a complex of buildings in San Francisco known as the Presidio. This complex also includes the main campus of Starfleet Academy.

Starfleet Command has a dual role. It acts as an administrative and bureaucratic centre for the fleet, collating and disseminating all fleet data to where it needs to go, and it also issues orders, both strategic and individual, to starships across the galaxy. In order to accomplish the latter, Starfleet Command utilises an intricate communications network that is linked across all its facilities. In the event of a starship in the Neutral Zone requesting instructions, Starfleet Command can override the orders of the local Admiral if necesary.

Starfleet Command keeps active contact with the office of Secretary of Starfleet to ensure that current Federation foreign policies are maintained across the fleet.
