LOCATION: USS PHOENIX
SD [2.16] 1219.0900
SCENE: Sickbay

Sofia inwardly smiled as she stepped into Sickbay admitting to herself that the meeting with Captain Kane had gone far better than she had expected, Yes she had been given several letters of recommendations and had been permitted to board the ship, but the most important hurdle had been the ship's Commanding Officer. With a single word from him, the hopeful blonde haired woman could have found herself on a one-way trip back to EARTH, without a shuttle or even an EVA suit.

Young and naive, she had made several mistakes not the least of which had been to join the Neo-Essentialist movement, but through all of that she had still managed to attract the attention of good hearted people. It was thanks to all of them that she had found her way here, and for that she would be eternally grateful.

After having taken a few steps into Sickbay, Sofia stood still for a moment, taking in the sights and sounds of the room. To many it would be a location to be avoid whenever possible, waiting only for a dire emergency to finally set foot in this place. To others would be just another specialized location no different than Main Engineering or a Shuttle Bay. To Sofia, as the newly appointed Assistant Chief Medical Officer, Sickbay would become the place to be, her home away from home, the location where she would do everything possible to prove herself to those who had placed their trust in her.

This is where she would begin to make amends for all of the wrong decisions she had made over the years. As Sofia contemplated this thought a wave of sadness swept through her as she thought of her family and what they had likely still been thinking. As far as they had all been concerned, Sofia Andersson had become nothing more than a criminal, a dark blotch on the family's name. In order to start making amends she needed to set the record straight and to do so she needed to let them know what had happened and where she was.

Slowly and with a certain level of apprehension, the aCMO made her way to the nearest communication monitor. "Computer, please establish a comm link to the Andersson household in Stockholm, Sweden on EARTH. Location ID SWST4487112."

It had taken but a few seconds for the logo of the Federation to be replaced by the face of an older blonde haired woman who had been smiling until she realized whom she would be talking to.

[/\] Sofia? Why are you calling us? [/\] The disappointment and disapproval in the woman's voice had been tangible and made the aCMO actually wince back half a step.

"Mother, please," Sofia began, her voice meek and trembling with emotions. "I just wanted..."

[/\] We are not interested in what you wanted, [/\] Olivia Andersson hissed back in a way that would have made anyone uncomfortable. [/\] Your father and I have read all of your letters and frankly we have had enough of your excuses. Whatever trouble you found yourself in this time is yours to get out of. Go ask your Neo-Essentialists friends for help, we don't want anything to do with you. Nathan and Natasha both agree with our position on this matter; you are a disgrace to this family and to the human race as a whole. You are alive while so many have died, and you want our forgiveness? You are as you have always been a selfish little girl bent on hurting your family whatever we did or said to help. Now it is too late, you are on your own and no one cares what rotting hole of a jail you find yourself in or why you were sent there. [/\] The screen went dark immediately after, the communication having been terminated at the other end.

Shellshocked, Sofia stared at the empty screen for several seconds, and continued to do so when the logo the Federation appeared on the same screen as where her mother's face had been. Holding back her tears she turned around and looked at the empty Sickbay, not at the jail her parents had envisioned her to be in. This would be her new home and the crew of the USS PHOENIX would hopefully in time become her new family. Whatever her fellow shipmates thought of her, whatever they would come so say to her could never match what her mother had just unleashed and how a mother had made her own daughter feel. No one could.

One heavy step followed the previous as Sofia slowly made her way to the main examination bed. She needed to keep her mind and focus on the future and not on her past. Maybe one day her parents and siblings would see that she had not been the person they had painted her to be, but for now the aCMO needed to prove herself to no other than herself.

"Computer," Sofia began as she drew in a long deep breath. "I need a complete inventory of all medical supplies including those in secondary locations and storage. I will also need a complete inventory of any biological sample we have on board along with their location and storage requirements. I will be inspecting them one by one to make sure that the minimum requirements are indeed being met."

As the computer processed the request, Sofia once again looked around Sickbay trying her best to put her past where it belong; as far out of reach as she could place it. This was her new home, and that thought actually made her smile, even if only a bit.

NRPG:

A little more character development and establishing the kind of family issues Sofia will not be dealing with. Maybe in a few years when they all believe her dead will she try contacting her parents again, but for now she will be more than happy to focus on her duties and responsibilities on board the PHOENIX.

Keep up the great posting everyone, and if someone wants to drop into Sickbay for any reason, the aCMO is in.
