NEW FERENGI ALLIANCE

The NEW FERENGI ALLIANCE is the name of the organisation that rejected mainstream Ferengi society and exiled itself following the Great Merger in 2395.

The ageing Grand Nagus Rom, who led his people into becoming part of the Federation, did not manage to convince all Ferengi that giving up their sovereignty was a good idea. There was a vocal and fractious minority that opposed him every step of the way, and when the Ferengi people voted in a plebiscite to join the United Federation of Planets, thousands of their rebellious fellows took flight into the stars.

Settling a new world in a remote star system, these exiled Ferengi retained the name of Ferengi Alliance, and kept up their traditions of cut-throat capitalism, oppression of females, and heedless pursuit of profit.

While it remains a rump power, the citizens of the New Ferengi Alliance are beginning to spread out into the quadrant, and the likelihood of future conflict between the two branches of Ferengi remains high.
