FERENGINAR MUD EEL

Ferenginar is a hot, wet, swampy world full of fens and mudflats. The planet is teeming with an astonishing variety of fauna, mainly insects, arthropods, amphibians, and other invertebrates. At the top of the food chain on Ferenginar is the GIANT MUD EEL.

This deadly ambush predator grows to around two metres in length and can weigh as much as 15 kilograms. It lies in wait in the mud waiting for suitably large prey to pass by, then lashes out, grabbing the victim with its mouth and enveloping them with its strong coils. The mud eel's mouth is perfectly adapted for the grisly business of boring its way into its victim's body while it is still alive.

Giant mud eels were a problem for Ferengi right up to their medieval era, as the creatures seem to posses a rudimentary intelligence and often approached rural villages. With the advent of modern technology, Ferengi were able to slowly deplete their numbers. Now, the mud eels live far from Ferengi cities in only the deepest, darkest swamps.
