LOCATION: USS PHOENIX
SD [2.16] 1221.1020
SCENE: Sickbay
(TIME INDEX: Following Marko's "Beidh muid ag cur tús?")

Being the aCMO in a new Sickbay on board a ship that she had just been assigned to had left Sofia uncomfortable in using the medical office, especially since it had been meant for the ship's Chief Medical Officer and not her. So, in order to review the inventory lists provided by the computer, Ensign Andersson had set up camp on the diagnostic biobed, her elbows resting on the soft cushion, her eyes diligently scanning the multitude of PADDS scattered about, and the blonde haired woman's back nearly horizontal being at an almost 90 degree angel to her legs.

That was the scene Lt. Cantor Von saw when he stepped into Sickbay. A thousand and one potential comments made their way through the 6'2" tall Betazoid as he found himself scrutinizing the scene before him. He had never seen anything like this during his seven years with the Romulans, and truth be told, he had not been about to complain, not that he had been exactly certain as to why.

"Excuse me," Von politely offered, his voice having come across as far more stern and professional than he might have wanted it to be. He had not wanted to come across as being rude or even ready to point out that this had not been a way for a Starfleet Officer to be seen, but alas that is the way his own words had sounded to him.

"I'm Sorry," Ensign Andersson apologised as she rapidly returned to a full upright posture before fixing her tunic. "I must have been too lost in all of these inventory lists to hear you come in, how may I help you..." the blonde woman's voice trailed off as she tried to match the man's features and rank to what she could recall of the crew list, which unfortunately had not been all that much.

"Lieutenant Cantor Von," the black haired man replied almost coming to full attention, "I am the PHOENIX's new Chief of Operations." The gesture had not been because he had wanted to show respect but because seven years had effectively trained his muscles and mind in the proper manner in which to introduce himself to others.

Sofia quickly reached for one of the PADDs on the examination bed before turning back to face the towering man standing before her. At 5'6", his 6'2" made him a giant, and a little intimidating.

"Von... Von..." Sofia repeated in a whispered voice as she scanned the PADD containing the senior officers' medical files. "There we go," the aCMO said and then went silent as she took in the content of the dossier. "Wow. You were with a Romulan crew in the Gamma Quadrant for *years*, I can only imagine what that was like."

"I doubt it," Cantor countered, this time his tone having come across as he had intended it to, friendlier.

"You are right," the blonde woman conceded with a grin. "If you would care to take a seat on the biobed," Sofia said as she quickly cleared the diagnostic bed of the numerous PADDs she had been looking at before the Betazoid's arrival in Sickbay. "I will conduct your preliminary examination, unless of course you would rather wait to be be examined by the ship's CMO?"

"I have no objections with you being in charge of examining me," Von said as he sat on the biobed, his voice having sounded oddly Romulan in his last statement.

"Computer, initiate a complete bioscan of the subject currently on the examination bed," the aCMO ordered taking the man's wrist between her fingers. As much as the computer could and would tell her about the Lieutenant's physical state, Sofia still liked a more 'hands-on' approach.

She grinned ever so meekly as Von's skin felt cold to the touch, indicating a slight variant between his and her temperatures.

"Pulse is strong and steady," Andersson reported as she lifted her eyes to the diagnostic board on the wall. "Blood pressure is slightly elevated but well within standard deviations for a Betazoid," just as she said the race Sofia stopped dead in her tracks.

**Betazoid! I have to be careful of what I am thinking! Great so now he's going to hear my thoughts on me thinking about being careful about what I should be thinking about. I am so embarrassed.**

"Not used to being around Betazoids are you?" Von asked, trying his best to put the woman at ease, her thoughts having been transmitted with such intensity that the Chief of Operations was sure that every single telepath on board the PHOENIX had heard her.

"I'm sorry," Sofia offered with her head held low. "When I get nervous I used to mumble out loud, but I have learned to just let my mind go, which is usually not an issue, but I had not considered that there would be telepaths on board the PHOENIX, which I should have. With a ship this size it was shortsighted of me not to think that there would be telepaths on board and that they would certainly become rapidly annoyed with my rambling, even if they are not outwardly verbal."

"Relax, all is well," Cantor offered. "Betazoids, as in most telepaths don;t listen in on other's thoughts. In this case I was just curious if there had been something odd about my bio scan that you were delaying telling me."

"As I said, aside from the slightly elevated blood pressure the only other thing the scanners have picked up on is a deficiency in a few minerals in your system, likely caused by you not eating as well as you should," the aCMO reported trying her best to keep her thoughts under control. "As far as can see, you are perfectly fit for duty."

"Thank you," Von said as he slid off the examination table. "Now if you will excuse me, I have duties to attend to."

Sofia just stood there half waving her hand goodbye to the Lieutenant as he made his way out of Sickbay. **Well done!** the aCMO blasted herself as she allowed her forehead to unceremoniously fall onto the examination table where Von had been only seconds ago. **Talk about making a lasting first impression.**

I know that I have taken a lot of chances and liberties here and if I made any mistakes, please forgive me Marko.
