Mission: The Lights of Hyperion

“Celebration”

(Continued from “Crowd Control”)

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Location: USS PHOENIX

Scene: Shanty Town Section Delta -> Shanty Town Section Alpha

Stardate: [2.5]

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The work in Shanty Town was slow and that had been quite a few times that Sylvia had been some what worried, not fearful, but worried for her safety. It had been her experience for the last few incidents that a few well placed words along with the presence of Jacen seemed to work; and, when his presence did not the combined silver tongue of Arthur Embry seemed to quelch any fire that had been begun in the minds of the occupants. It was true that the installation was taking quite a bit longer than expected; but, with the constant populace watching every move or random acts of childhood carefree spirit combined with their favorite unrecognizable pet the delays were many and the work was few it seemed.

Slowly scanning the connections and installation ensuring proper fit and that all the parts were working according to specification for the replicator Sylvia wiped her brow and took a deep breath. It was at this moment that the room itself seemed to grow fuzzy a bit and an incredible urge of becoming sick began to grow almost enveloping her before passing just a quick as it came. Using her hand as a brace and leaning against the wall as she remained in the squatted position she had found herself in during the installation he regain full control of herself once again before looking around.

Turning back to check on her progress Horatio Bellecotte stopped in his tracks at the expression that was displayed on the engineer's face. Slowly walking over as if he had been asked to help her up he leaned down taking hold of her arm gently, “you alright Lieutenant?”

Sylvia nodded slowly before looking at the marine blushing slightly as her stomach slowly emitted a growl that she felt could be heard across the busy din, “it’s nothing, at least nothing I believe a good rest and food won’t take care of.”

“Aye,” the man stated before stepping back looking around, “how many are left on your work order?”

Wiping her brow once again, now with a sense of worry at her mind at the amount she was sweating Sylvia checked a padd that she placed on top of the replicator, “let’s see, I had this one to finish and I believe just to check the progress on sections alpha and bravo to ensure they are still working properly and we will be finished.”

“Good,” he stated before looking around and pointing out a path that seemed to be used as a walkway to section they were wanting to go.

The walk for the most part was silent as they both surveyed their surroundings, though the reasons would differ. Sylvia had been looking for obvious signs of damage, misuse, or tampering with the ships systems making sure to scan as many bulkheads as she could possibly while keeping pace; however, Horatio’s motive was scanning body language and faces looking for a threat and presuming that one may lay around each corner. It was until they approached section alpha where a replicator had been finished that the duo slowed their steps looking at the crowd that had gathered. Exchanging glances their minds began to prepare for the worse; but, the crowd was calm and silent as if waiting for something.

“Ladies, Gentlemen, and my dear non-gender or dual gender friends I am glad that you were able to make it to this wonderful and momentous occasion,” the voice of Arthur Embry began carrying over the crowd, “thanks to our dear friends the crew of this wonderful ship, which need I remind you graciously saved our lives without recompense, we have been given access to what we would have considered a luxury in our lives amongst the inhabitants of LIMBO. It is with greatest pride and deepest pleasure that I finally declare the replicators in the and the adjacent area of our lovely community fully operation and ready to use!”

The crowd slowly began to clap and there was a sigh of relief mixed with cheer as the crowd seemed to begin to form a line to gain access to the replicator. It was with a sudden flash of anger that a small confrontation broke out as someone pushed forward in the forming line to gain access quickly. As the man seemed to escalate quickly Jacen appeared as if out of no where to assess the situation.

“Gentlemen, gentlemen,” Arthur exclaimed walking towards the two with his arms open, “oh excuse me, I beg your pardon Madam’s. There is no need for us to fight amongst ourselves for the right to obtain food. You see this food is not going to stop at a certain point of day we are all welcome to use this and the other replicators upon full installation to obtain the necessities for our comfort.”

The two women looked from one another then to Arthur as he placed his arm’s around them in an embrace, “you see we are all a community here and the needs of your children are the needs of mine. I understand it is and will be hard to trust one another again; but, today is a brighter day and we shall live in it together sharing the warmth of the Sun!”

Standing there listening Sylvia blinked slightly as a wave of sickness seemed to reel in with the completion of Arthur’s last sentence. As her body compensated and she felt as if her head had become light she blinked quickly before breaking into a cold sweat which was quickly wiped away. Quickly moving her way through the crowd beginning her work to the side of the line gathering the scans Sylvia kept her mind at ease as best as she could. The scans wouldn’t take but a few moments but it seemed to be almost a lifetime before she finished the section.

Horatio was moving quickly trying now to keep pace with the engineer whose actions had been increasingly quickened. He watched the woman work almost feverishly moving from replicator to replicator obtaining the necessary scans and readouts to confirm proper working and no tampering. There were a few moments he considered speaking with her but the look on her face as if she was standing between angry and worry cautioned him away. It was however to the unlucky circumstance that just as Sylvia completed her work on the final replicator Arthur would appear out of the crowd as if gliding on air.

“There she is,” he proclaimed gathering people around him, “there is the lovely Lieutenant that has completed the work that has given us the access continue our lives and be more comfortable.”

Wrapping his arm around her Arthur smiled as he proclaimed the generosity and extolled the virtues of the young woman. Sylvia did her best to put on a smile while escaping the cargobay. As Arthur began to reel his speech in for the final bolstering virtue Sylvia took a deep breath a she once again felt the urge of becoming sick grew deep within. Her eyes widened slightly as she knew this time, this time it was different. There was something that wasn’t like the others and she may not be able to control herself.

“Thank you once again Lieutenant,” Arthur stated leaning in whispering, “i’m always available should you like to speak privately.”

Looking at the man Sylvia gave a smile mixed with slight disgust before the feeling itself overwhelmed her. Time seemed to come to a crawl as the feeling that was once contained in her stomach grew and left along with the contents of there of. This was of course to the immediate surprise and shock of Arthur who had been wearing his “best” tunic for such an auspicious occasion.

Walking up quickly Horatio turned to Jacen then back to the young woman, “I’ll get her out of here and to medical. Can you take care of him?”

“Yeah,” Jacen stated beginning to disperse the crowd of children and women cackling or staring in disgust.

Arthur turned looking at the crowd and quickly regain his composure, “i’m sure all of us will give our sympathies to the Lieutenant. As you can see she has literally worked and worried herself sick over our well being with ensuring the completion of the replicators.”

Scene: Sickbay

Time Index: Thirty Minutes Later

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It had been thirty minutes and Cade had ran every scan and test that he could think of to run on Sylvia checking for viral infections or something that could have been brought on board as a potential outbreak. The young woman sat there on the biobed her head running through scenario after scenario only smiling when Suvek would appear to check on her and reassure her that he answer would be found. It wasn’t until Cade emerged from where he had been holding up that her worries seemed to overwhelm her.

“Sylvia,” Cade stated looking down at the padd, “where’s Thomas?”

The color faded from her face, “he’s, he’s in the Shanty Town. Why?”

Cade nodded, “we may want to get him. I don’t want you to have to hear this alone and he’s going to need to be understand what’s going to happen going forward. I also have some question.”

Shaking her head her eyes began to water, “please, just tell me before we call him. I don’t want to worry him while he’s working and he’s helping a patrol right now.”

Cade sighed, “are you sure?”

Nodding Sylvia took a deep breath holding back tears and preparing herself for the worst to come, “yes, just tell me.”

“Very well,” he stated moving closer and leaning against the biobed next to her folding his arms,”I have spent most of my life in the medical field seen quite a few things both new and unexpected; as well as, some things that were treatable. I ran every test I could to determine what is wrong with you and what I found both disgusts and yet intrigues me.”

“Cade please,” Sylvia pleaded sniffling.

“Oh relax,” he stated standing up, “you’re not dying or sick. You’re pregnant.”
