THE FEDERATION ASSEMBLY

The FEDERATION ASSEMBLY is the parliament of the United Federation of Planets, made up of one delegate from each member world (not including colonies). It is the legislative body of the Federation, debating issues and passing or rejecting bills of law as they are presented. It is not the same body as the Federation Council.

Each member world sends one Ambassador to the Assembly to speak on behalf of their people. Like in all parliaments, various voting blocs and alliances are formed and discarded on a variety of issues, and majority voting is used to either pass or reject a motion. It is important to note that those worlds that are elected to serve on the Federation Council or on one of its various Committees do not lose their seats or voting rights in the Assembly.

Today, there are 187 different species represented in the Federation Assembly, making laws on behalf of over one trillion sentient beings throughout its jurisdiction.

The Assembly used to meet at the Palais de la Concorde in the city of Paris on Earth (pictured above), but following Paris' destruction on Stardate 2.1607, the capital of the Federation was moved to Vulcan. Today, the Assembly meets in the Hall of Voices in the Vulcan city of ShiKahr.
