Physical Description
Chaucer is small for a Gorn, but that still makes him big to most everyone else. He's not as thickly muscled, his limbs are somewhat more slender, but he moves faster that most of his brethren. He has patchy green scales, with scars covering much of his arms and torso, souvenirs from his upbringing. He moves like a large, bi-pedal lizard, capable of perfect stillness in one instant, frantic action in the next. His has clawed hands and feet, yellow predator's eyes, and sharp, needle-like teeth. Despite his fearsome appearance, Chaucer is actually quite peaceful.

Chaucer was born without the ability to speak or make vocalizations of any kind. This, coupled with his relatively diminutive size, made him an outcast from the start. Chaucer is cautious and observant, but when he acts he does so decisively. Though he is slow to trust, Chaucer can be quite loyal to those he considers his friends. He is a talented engineer, with a special knack for fixing things. Though he received some formal training on his homeworld, much of his skill is self-taught. He excels at improvisational repairs, jury-rigged solutions that get the job done even if they don't look very pretty. Though very skilled at working with hardware, Chaucer is not very good with computer systems and software, as their interfaces often confuse him.

Chaucer's Vox
Totally silent, Chaucer is reliant on his Vox to serve as his voice. This small, hand-held device is quite primitive by Federation standards, but Chaucer has been using it for some time. There are only four keys and a speaker - these four keys each sound a mechanical voice that says a different phrase - "Yes", "No", "Help", and "My Name Is Chaucer".

Death
Ensign Chaucer was killed by the phobophage entity in late 2432.
