CAPTAIN SMOOSHY

CAPTAIN SMOOSHY (or 'The Pug') is the name of a male Terran dog aboard the USS Phoenix. He is owned by Lieutenant Owen Arion, one of the ship's counselors, who uses Smooshy as a therapy dog - he has noticed that many of his patients feel more at ease when petting the friendly pug.

Originally named 'Lieutenant Smooshy', the pug was promoted by Captain Kane as an ironic joke that nobody got. Smooshy wears a pug-sized Starfleet uniform jacket with four gold pips on the collar. He is supposed to be confined to Lieutenant Arion's quarters, but the pug often gets loose and is seen around the ship indulging in his two favourite pastimes - leaving drool trails and urinating on clean surfaces.

Most of the Human crew have an attachment to Captain Smooshy, who shows no fear of the ship's non-Human crew, although some of them are noticeably nervous around Smooshy. Captain Kane is known to loathe the pug, and has often threatened to have it shot into space without a pressure suit if he finds it wandering the ship.
