USS ENDEAVOUR (NCC-2000)

The USS ENDEAVOUR, NCC-2000, was an Endeavour-class light cruiser in service between 2397-2412 (around 20-30 years ago). The first starship of her class and the tenth Starfleet vessel to bear the name, the Endeavour was launched at the close of the twenty-fourth century as a then-modern multi-role vessel, capable of being used for transportation, diplomatic, exploratory, offensive and defensive, and medical purposes. She and her 19 sister ships in her class (assigned NCC numbers between 2000-2019) became the mainstays of Starfleet's domestic fleet during the zenith of the Federation's power and influence following the end of the Alliance War. With over 800 crew aboard, the Endeavour was utilised as a mobile platform to protect the Federation's interests in many different theatres.

For the fourteen years between 2397-2411, the Endeavour served Starfleet well under several different commanders. At the beginning of 2412, Captain Kel Koronin assumed the centre seat and oversaw a complete upgrade to the ship, as Starfleet hurriedly began to make its older starships more combat-ready in the face of the Kem D'Neel onslaught.

Following the overhaul and a short shakedown cruise, Captain Elspeth Renata took over, and led the USS Endeavour into the great Battle of Coriana III, where she served alongside hundreds of starships from across the quadrant in fighting the Kem D' Neel fleet. The Endeavour took heavy damage and many casualties during the battle, but managed to limp back to Starbase 4 along with dozens of badly-damaged starships. After several days of waiting, and over Captain Renata's protestations, Starfleet Engineering eventually decided to decommission the Endeavour rather than repair her, bringing her fine career to an end. The ship was formally decommissioned in the summer of 2412 and afterward stripped down for parts.

As a final side-note, no new starship has been christened Endeavour since her decommissioning. However, Endeavour was one of the code-names considered, but ultimately rejected, when Project Phoenix was initiated.
