USS OLYMPUS (NCC-6000)

The USS OLYMPUS, NCC-6000 and the third Starfleet vessel to bear the name, was an Olympus-class starship in service twenty years ago, between 2410-2411. The first starship of her class, and carrying on the design tradition of former Starfleet ships, the Olympus-class was intended to be the pinnacle of Starfleet's explorer design. With NCC numbers ranging from 6000 to 6019, Olympus-class explorers were to be named after ancient Greek gods and goddesses. When she was launched in late 2409, the USS Olympus was one of the most advanced and powerful starships in Starfleet, so much so that it was designated the flagship of the United Federation of Planets.

Over 900 metres long, the Olympus was one of the largest ships ever constructed by the Federation. Equipped with both a transwarp drive and bio-regenerative hull matrix that allowed the ship's computer to repair any damage inflicted on the vessel's hull using the integrated bio-neural components, the Olympus was launched into the void under Captain Johnathan West, one of the most experienced commanders in Starfleet at that time. Using Starbase 21 as her base for her first year, the Olympus charted many star systems near the Denorius Belt and travelled through the Bajoran wormhole into the Gamma Quadrant while construction of Gateway Station was underway at the wormhole's far entrance.

In early 2411, the Olympus was docked at Starbase 21 when the Bajoran wormhole suddenly opened, depositing several starships of unknown configuration into the Alpha Quadrant. Responding, the Olympus attempted contact with the aliens, but their only reply was a sudden attack. The alien starships, equipped with advanced weapons and cloaking technology, maneuvered to separate the Olympus from the Starbase. None of the Olympus' much-vaunted defensive systems made any impact against these new and deadly aliens, and after a short battle, the USS Olympus was obliterated in an immense fireball, shattering the myth of her superiority. Only a handful of survivors, including Captain West, managed to escape the doomed ship.

The aliens were the Kem D'Neel, and the Seventh War of Retribution had begun.
