USS CENTURY (NCC-10000)

The USS CENTURY, NCC-10000 and the first ever Starfleet vessel to bear the name, was a starship active in Starfleet between 2414-2431.

When construction was completed in 2414, utilising the hull configuration from the old Akira-class, the Century-class cruiser was Starfleet's most advanced design, encompassing then-futuristic technologies such as an Exopod-driven damage control system, and a fully-interactive holographic humanoid interface for the main computer. It was also equipped with a bio-neural sensor package and was one of the few Starfleet vessels to be equipped with a cloaking device. All these systems were to assist the ship in its envisioned role as a multi-purpose, adaptable vessel.

Launched under the command of Captain Dexter Marxx, the CENTURY's first year was spent in the Gamma Quadrant, using Gateway station as its base. Captain Cameron Locke took over in 2415, but a disastrous contact with the Thal in which Locke was killed saw Marxx temporarily resume command.

Captain James Randles was assigned the centre seat in 2416, and under his command a new generation of Starfleet officers cut their teeth. It was in this year that the Century came into contact with the Neo-Essentialists, when they uncovered the terrible Harbinger project on Elcaro and exposed Edmund Dupree as the leader of the Neo-Essentialists.

Later that year, with his organisation in chaos, Edmund Dupree hijacked the CENTURY while she was docked at Starbase 9, and fled into the deadworlds of the Beta Quadrant. He remained in hiding for three years, and the CENTURY was written off as missing, presumed lost.

In 2421, at a secret meeting between Dupree and Richard Edgerton in the distant system K-60, Richard Edgerton vented the CENTURY's atmosphere into space, killing all aboard her. The ship drifted through space for 9 years, eventually becoming caught in the gravity well of one of that system's gas giants. Nine years later, the CENTURY's last subspace transceiver message was received and a rescue mission was launched by the USS Discovery.

The CENTURY returned alone from that mission, publicly decloaking in the skies above Paris, an event witnessed by over one million people.

She was refitted and her systems brought up to date, and she was added to the ranks of the Neo-Essentialist Starfleet. Dexter Marxx, brought out of retirement for one last mission, took command of his old ship once again, leading the CENTURY and her battlegroup in an effort to destroy the rebel fleet massing at Elandipole IV. However, the plot was exposed, and Marxx turned on the Neo-Essentialists.

After being restored to Starfleet control, the Century, still commanded by Marxx, led Starfleet in the momentous Battle of Earth to overthrow the Neo-Essentialists. In the closing stages of the battle, the Century was irradiated with a thaleron weapon that killed all aboard her. With the irradiated ship unable to be used again, the Century was scuttled shortly after the battle, bringing her magnificent career to a final end.
