CANDLESTICK AUDITORIUM

CANDLESTICK AUDITORIUM is an historical building in San Francisco that has long been linked to the early history of the Federation.

Originally one of the city's many sports parks, Candlestick Auditorium was constructed in the 21st century. In 2161, it became the site of the signing of the Articles of Federation, the ceremony that saw Earth, Andor, Vulcan, and Tellar join together to become the United Federation of Planets.

In 2431, Candlestick Auditorium again became the site of an important diplomatic event, when the Federation Council was reconvened there after an hiatus of 2 years. The meeting was divisive and controversial, as the Council voted that Earth should lose its permanent seat and revert to being a regular member of the Federation, and that the Federation capital world would be moved to Vulcan.

Although Earth and Humans retained their Assembly seat, the move was justified by the Council as an attempt to conclusively separate Starfleet from the government, and to lessen Humanity's influence over the Federation as a whole, given that Human extremists have been responsible for several internal crises in the past three centuries.
