PI ALPHA III-A

The only satellite orbiting Pi Alpha III, PI ALPHA III-A is a geologically unstable planetoid that is used as a testing ground for New Alexandria's starships and support craft.

The moon has a dangerously-active molten core of rock silicates, making its surface extremely tenuous and wracked by frequent volcanic eruptions and earthquakes, which throw up permanent shifting ash clouds into the moon's sky. There is an atmosphere of trace gases, but it is precariously thin.

Despite the moon's hazards, it is a suitable, if rough, testing ground for starship and shuttle shield and propulsion technology. The conditions challenge the skills of the most competent pilots, and the atmospheric shearing forces provide invaluable data when testing new ablative armour or a deflector shield upgrade. The surface of the moon has a wide variety of terrains suitable for vehicle testing in a challenging environment.

For these reasons, Pi Alpha III-A remains the go-to test-bed for all of New Alexandria's technological developments.
