THE J'DEN

The J'DEN are an extra-dimensional species that has recently made First Contact with the Federation. They are aware of the existence of the multiverse and are beginning to explore it using trans-dimensional technology. Hailing from Dimension 001/-022/002, the J'Den are bipedal humanoids that are physically strong and robust. Females display circular angled horns from their sides of their heads, a trait not shared by males.

The population of their homeworld is tiny - just over one million individuals - but this is due to repeated conquests of their homeworld, ecological disasters, and the enslavement of their entire race three millennia ago. Nevertheless, they have a rich cultural history and are now a united people attempting to terraform their homeworld back to its original state.

After two millennia of enslavement by an alien race known as the Masters, who performed genetic experimentation on the J'Den, the numbers of J'Den was at an all-time low. It was the females who eventually rose up against the Masters and drove them off-world, securing J'Den independence. This led to the creation of a strong matriarchal society.

The J'Den still do not practice sexual equality - in their culture, females are dominant and male J'Den are looked on as almost second-class. Following First Contact with the Federation in 2431, it remains to be seen whether the J'Den will continue this practice.

For more information on the J'Den's history and culture, see the relevant entry on the Distant Horizons website.
