THE BREEN

The BREEN are a species of humanoid and the ruling people of the Breen Confederacy. Despite over a century of contact, it is unknown in the Federation what a Breen actually looks like, as they are never seen without their environment suits. Despite this, scans have been made of individual Breen, and the physiological results are quite surprising.

When not on their frigid homeworld, the Breen wear their environment suits to regulate their body temperature. Their bodies do not seem to have a liquid circulatory system of any kind - no blood, no lymph, no hormones, no other bodily fluids - and their brains are structured with four, not two, lobes. No dead Breen have been discovered to autopsy, and much of their physical makeup is still theoretical.

Their language sounds like a stream of garbled electronic sounds, although it is not known whether this is a natural sound or an artificial vox signal from their environment suit.

Their society seems warlike and somewhat violent. Breen use slave labour and do not treat prisoners by what the Federation considers humane standards. The larger nuances of their culture are unknown.

It is theorised that the Breen are many different species, masquerading as one. If this is true, then further intelligence is badly needed. There is too much that is not known about this enigmatic race.
