EDMUND DUPREE (2369-2421)

EDMUND DUPREE (2369-2421) was a Starfleet Admiral and leader of the Neo-Essentialists. Born in Tycho City on Luna on the quadricentennial of Apollo 11's landing on the moon, a career in Starfleet seemed always on the cards for Dupree, who joined Starfleet after receiving a degree in Management Science from the University of New Berlin. He never married nor had any children.

Commissioned as an officer in 2396, Dupree rose through the ranks as an Operations officer aboard various starships. He was First Officer of the USS Jenolan (NCC-2010) during the Seventh War of Retribution, and attained the rank of Captain of that starship in 2412, following the post-Coriana III fleet shakeup.

At some point in the immediate aftermath of the Seventh War, Edmund Dupree became a member of the Neo-Essentialists, probably while on shore leave on Luna. His high Starfleet rank was perfect cover for the growing organisation, and strings were pulled to have Dupree promoted to Admiral and given command of Starbase 56, responsible for five Federation sectors.

While 'serving' in this capacity, Dupree arranged for the Neo-Essentialists' first tinkering with the Human genome. In a secret laboratory on the storm-lashed world of Elcaro, two genetic projects were begun under Dupree's clandestine supervision - Projects Harbinger and Demon - taking the first steps on the road that would eventually lead to Project Promethean.

Unfortunately for Dupree and the Neo-Essentialists, Project Harbinger was uncovered and destroyed by the crew of the USS Century (NCC-10000) in 2416. Worse still, his position as leader of the Neo-Essentialists was compromised. As Starfleet was closing in on him, Edmund Dupree and a handful of loyal followers stole the USS Century from its repair dock in Starbase 56 and fled into the deadworlds of the Beta Quadrant.

The Neo-Essentialist movement seemed defeated. Dupree lay low in the Beta Quadrant for five years and continued his efforts to rebuild the organisation. Unfortunately, he had fallen out of favour among the new, militant generation of Neo-Essentialists, who plotted his downfall.

In 2421, then-Captain Richard Edgerton of the USS Valhalla (NCC-4008) managed to secure a secret meeting with Dupree in the Beta Quadrant system K-60. At that meeting, Richard Edgerton used the Century's command codes to override the main computer's life support safeguards, venting the ship's atmosphere into space, killing Dupree and his small cadre of followers. Richard Edgerton went on to assume the leadership of the Neo-Essentialist movement.

Edmund Dupree's corpse remained floating on the bridge of the USS Century for eight years, until the ship was found by the USS Discovery (NCC-12001) in 2429. An autopsy examination positively identified his remains. However, the USS Discovery was destroyed in system K-60 shortly afterward, and Edmund Dupree's mortal remains were destroyed with it.
