U-69 III (BORGUS)

BORGUS is the name of the class M planet that modern Borg have taken as their new homeworld. It lies deep within the Delta Quadrant, in star system U-69.

Following the destruction of the Collective half a century ago, almost all of the history and lore of the Borg was lost. Without access to the Collective, the newly individualised Borg struggled to remember and set down what they knew of themselves. Thousands of centuries ago, the Borg were normal organic sentient lifeforms who evolved into cyborgs - while it seems logical that those original Borg must ultimately have had an historical homeworld, knowledge of its location was lost in the trauma of the Collective's destruction.

As the nascent Borg Federation came into existence, it was decided that all Borg should have a new homeworld. A Minshara-class world in the U-69 system was chosen to be the new Borgus. It had previously been assimilated by the Borg, its surface scarred by heavy industrialisation, but within a few decades its ecology was restored. Its industries, cities and transportation links were all repaired, and Borgus became both the primary hub of the Borg Network and the home of the Borg Council, a highly-urban capital world from where the new twenty-fifth century Borg could make laws to fit their burgeoning society.

Today, Borgus supports a population of some twenty million individual Borg - a small population, but growing quickly with each new generation. Several Federation starships have visited Borgus on diplomatic missions, and the planet has a high reputation as a technological hub, with important research and development underway in clean energy, cybernetics, and bioethics.
