USS AVALON (NCC-2025)

The USS AVALON, NCC-2025, was a Legend-class starship in service between 2415-2419. The first starship to bear the name, the Avalon was the second ship of the new Legend-class to built - a design intended for use as an explorer, with over eight hundred crew members packed tightly into thirty-three decks.

The Avalon's mission focus did not fit the role it was designed for, however. Launched under the command of Commander Siobhan Reardon-Marxx, most of the Avalon crew's first shakedown year was spent in a holodeck in various training simulations.

In 2416, the ship was assigned to patrol the Neutral Zone from Starbase 173, and found itself busy mediating a dispute between the Nenans and Kinasthans, as well as pursuing and capturing the pirate vessel 'Bounty'. The crew also made contact with a small Neo-Essentialist cell operating in that sector of space and broke it up.

In 2417, another dispute between the Anticans and the Selay, both Federation members, threatened to spiral into war. The Avalon successfully resolved the conflict, and then moved to Utara Prime in an attempt to locate some missing crew members.

At the beginning of 2418, Commander Reardon-Marxx was promoted to Captain, and the Avalon experienced her busiest year yet. After making contact with an alternate dimension through a subspace rift, she was dispatched to the Arkalia system to rescue the USS Excalibur from the belligerent Arkalians and their recently-launched battleship. The Avalon also mediated in the dispute between the Roul and the Serli and tested a new molecular transporter device.

At the close of 2419, Captain Reardon-Marxx was reassigned, and the centre seat was taken over by Captain James Simmons. The Avalon travelled to Babel, ferrying a bunch of squabbling diplomats, but it was to be her last mission. Halfway through the year, Starfleet reshuffled its fleet structure and took the Avalon off front-line duty, assigning her to the reserve fleet, bringing an end to her active service career.
