JEM'HADAR BATTLESHIP

As part of the Jem'Hadar's formidable military, the Dominion has constructed several starship classes. The largest and most powerful - Jem'Hadar battleships - were easily the equal or better of Starfleet's most powerful vessels during both Dominion Wars.

During the Second Dominion War, Starfleet Intelligence launched a project to capture a Jem'Hadar battleship via a boarding action. This was to be the first step towards an ultimate objective of reverse-engineering Dominion technology.

In 2423, almost a year into the Second Dominion War, a Jem'Hadar battleship was cornered by a squadron of Starfleet destroyers in the Alpha Aquarii system. The Jem'Hadar attempted to self-destruct their ship, but were prevented from doing so by heavy damage to their main computer during the battle.

It was the golden chance that Starfleet had waited for. Over three thousand Starfleet Marines assaulted the enemy battleship in a fierce boarding action, knowing that Jem'Hadar do not surrender and that there was no way to take possession of the battleship while any Jem'Hadar remained alive. Despite a three-to-one numerical advantage, Marine losses were exceptionally heavy before final enemy resistance was eliminated.

The intact capture of a Jem'Hadar battleship was a huge boon for Starfleet's war effort. Once it had been towed back to Earth, a voyage that itself took several months, work began on reverse-engineering the Jem'Hadar weapons systems - a project that would ultimately lead to the construction and the launch of the dreadnought USS Phoenix.
