B-TYPE VALDORE-CLASS WARBIRD

The VALDORE B-TYPE WARBIRD is the front-line starship of the Romulan Star Empire. A large, fixed-wing craft, the Valdore B-type's design has been in use for half a century, but has proven durable and flexible enough to be continually upgraded and refitted.

Named after a 22nd Romulan admiral, the first Valdore-class Warbirds came into service in the 2380s to counter the launch of the Federation's Sovereign-class battleships. With a wingspan of almost one kilometre and a ferocious armament of shipboard disruptors and plasma torpedoes, the Valdore Warbirds are impressive weapons in their own right, but their ability to also act as fleet command and control ships doubles their effectiveness.

The B-type Valdore Warbirds came into front-line service in the 2420s. Thick, feather-shaped ablative armour was added to their superstructure, and their disruptor and torpedo systems are the pinnacle of Romulan weapons technology. These starships were at the forefront of the Romulan offensive into the Federation in 2429.

The launch of the USS Phoenix in 2429 made all existing starships obsolete. The Romulan Navy has not yet responded with a new class of starship, but there can be no doubt that the Romulans reacted with alarm to the launch of the Phoenix and immediately began designing a new class of starship to match it. For now, the B-type Valdore Warbirds lurk in the darkness on the far side of the Romulan Neutral Zone, a menacing presence in the Long Night.
