Mission: Absolute Power

“BIRDMAN!”

(Continued from “Finnegan Begin Again”)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Location: EARTH

Scene: Apartment of Sylvia Warren

SD: [2.14]1006.1248

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thomas sat there on the arm of a chair as he looked awkwardly around the apartment. Normally he would be with Sylvia helping her pack and find the things that she wanted to take with her to the new ship; but, instead he is in the room with a man that he had no idea that he would be meeting. It was a surprise to Sylvia and Thomas both, as by now she was suspecting her parents had returned home by now; but, here they were in living color. It had been almost and hour since they have arrived and Sylvia’s father had not stopped asking questions, the only pause that came is when there was a knock and alert at the door.

"Are you expecting company," Gerald asked his daughter as the came closer to the door to answer it.

Sylvia and Thomas looked to one another before shaking their heads. In all honestly neither one had expected anyone as Sylvia just received her orders to the Phoenix just recently; and, her parents were the only ones that knew other than Thomas, "not that I know of."

As Gerald opened the door he smiled and greeted the two men on the other side, "good evening can we help you?"

The next few seconds seemed to move in slow motion as perception and reality seemed to collide in a torrent of emotions and physics. In reality the motions of the strangers were quick and solid sending Sylvia's father stumbling backwards and into the nearby open door leading to the bedroom area of the apartment. The men quickly stepped inside the apartment doorway allowing the door to slide close behind them concealing what was about to happen in the apartment itself. Sharing a glance the two separated with one following the stumbling path of Sylvia's father and the other turning to look at Sylvia, Thomas, and Ethel. Sounds of struggle and small furniture breaking could be heard in the next room as Gerald could be heard with each blow that was landed.

Thomas looked down at his hand as Sylvia's grip tightened, it was in this moment that he squeezed it in return standing to his feet. As the unmoving assailant's eyes moved to the direct that Thomas was standing he said nothing before turning his attention back to Sylvia and her mother. As Thomas left the room Sylvia and her mother both watched the unmoving and non-speaking man before Sylvia's mother broke the silence, "what is it that you want."

A slight smirk could be seen forming on the man's face as he took in a breath, "Sylvia Warren, Starfleet Engineer, 923-Gamma-327-Echo and Thomas Varn, Science, 573-Alpha-576-Gama status deceased."

The reality of the situation began to permeate through all their senses and fear as this man in one breath answered many and gave many more questions. They, who ever they were, knew their names services numbers and intended to make his claim of deceased a reality. Sylvia quickly squeezed the hand of her mother hoping that Thomas and her father were ok in the next room.

Thomas leaned against a near by chest of drawers as his body reacted to the sudden force of a fist striking his face. He had only been in the room a few minutes but had realized that this particular man could divide his attention between Thomas and Gerald without breaking a sweat. Both men were lucky enough that to land a few shots only to be stopped before a new strike could be landed. Moving quickly from the chest of drawers Thomas lunged into the body of the attacker wrapping his arms around the man's waist only to stop as a knee made contact with his chest and the man's clasped fists made contact with his back. Falling to his knees Thomas desperately tried to catch the wind that was just knocked from his chest only to find himself being lifted from the floor and walked out to the balcony. As he struggled to breath he heard the man chuckle before feeling his body falling over the rail.

As the attacker looked over the rail enjoying the site of Thomas falling before turning back into the room. He stopped trying to find Gerald; but, he had already made his way back into the living area with Sylvia and her mother. Shaking his head the man began to take a step before he noticed that his coat appeared to be caught on something.

“Stupid railing,” he casually stated looking down noticing that he was now about a foot from the rail itself, “what the?”

Crouched on the railing as the dim lighting from the balcony graced his face and clothing with shadows Thomas had reached out and grabbed the man’s coat, “ that was my favorite coat…”

Managing his way out of the restraint the attacker looked and stepped back, “what are you?”

“That was my favorite coat,” Thomas stated stepping down stretching his wings for a moment, “ if you throw a man over a rail make sure that he hits the ground. Like this!”

With that in an instant Thomas reached out punching the man square in the face dazing him long enough to pick him up and toss him over the rail. Standing there watching Thomas narrowed his eyes as the man landed on top of a parked vehicle, “guess you didn’t have wings.”

Moving into the bedroom and reaching into his bag Thomas placed another jacket over his body before closing it.

“What did you say,” Sylvia asked grabbing her fathers shirt, “say that again.”

Gerald sighed before looking at his daughter, “Thomas is dead, he was thrown over the rail by this man’s associate it’s the only way I got in here. He died protecting me.”

“Sounds about right,” the reaming attacker stated laughing with a hearty chuckle, “before picking his teeth, “and you pretty lady will be next or maybe last depending on my mood.”

The group stared at the man with fear in their eyes; but, it was in that moment that the fear slowly faded to shock and amazement for all but Sylvia who was now relieved. The attacker slowly turned his head puzzled by the expression before turning to the gentle tapping that had begun on his shoulder.

“What the,” the man managed before Thomas hand was clasped around his throat squeezing as hard as he could.

As the man gasped for air frantically trying to pull the hand away from his throat but finding it more difficult that he thought it would be for someone of Thomas’ build, “don’t you ever look at her again.”

The man’s eyes began rolling to the back of his head before Thomas let him drop to the floor at the request of Sylvia who did not want him to kill him. Looking at the group Thomas managed a smile before nodding, “caught the other one off guard as he threw me and managed to take him over and grab the railing.”

Relieved, Gerald smiled before standing up looking at the unconscious man then the clock, “Sylvia you’re going to be late, you’re mother and I will contact the authorities you need to hurry.”

“But I can’t leave you two here with him,” Sylvia protested.

Smiling softly Ethel rubbed her daughter's cheek and kissed her forehead, “go on dear we will be just fine. He won’t be waking up for a while and the authorities will be here before he does. Besides I have a kitchen full of pans I can use to help if need be.”

It took almost another twenty minutes of arguing and pleading before Sylvia and Thomas left the apartment with their things heading towards the Phoenix. Standing there at the door Ethel sighed before reaching up and locking it behind them. Turning to her husband, Warren, sighed and nodded sending the man into the bedroom balcony.

By now a small group of people had gathered around the body of the man landed on the car below but not before leaving a treasure trove of evidence behind him. Reaching into his pocket, Warren pulled a small orb of metal tossing it into the air and leaving the room before it hit the floor. Upon making contact a small flash of light was emitted before the device began scanning the room and balcony removing any evidence that anyone had been in the room at all or on its balcony. Upon its task being completed the small device dematerialized in a small hue of a transporter beam finding itself back in, Warren’s pocket.

“What do we do with him,” asked his wife looking down at the man who had begun to regain consciousness.

The woman smiled down, “no witnesses.”

In an instant the man vaporized as the device that, Warren, had planted on him acted as if he was shot with a phazer on kill maximum setting. Nodding to one another the duo took their bags before walking to the door and opening it. In similar fashion, Warren, dropped the metal orb and the two disappeared into the hallway.

Sylvia and Thomas stood there looking around as it seemed that no one had yet to arrive. The duo sighed and waited as Sylvia had already changed into her uniform and Thomas was still in his civilian attire. They had been instructed to wait for the executive officer to greet them, which seemed unusual to say the least; but, it would be interesting to see who the new faces would be or where this adventure would take them. One thing was for sure from looking at the ship as they boarded, she could bite.
