Getting Back into the Swing of Things

Scene: Santiago's Quarters -> Main Engineering

Santiago rose from his bed. He was frustrated and angry. He was clueless about his life and his future. All he knew was that somehow, he had to make himself useful.

He quickly showered and changed into his uniform. As he looked into the mirror, he remembered how his grandfather and father looked in their StarFleet Uniforms. One a Commander, the other a Lieutenant. He he was continuing the tradition of the males in his family, selfless service. He straighted his tunic and smiled.

"I have to get back into the swing of things here" said the young ensign. He took a PADD from his desk and reviewed what had happened since he was injured.

So off he stepped into the corridor and into the nearest turbolift.

Scene: Main Engineering

Santiago stepped into Main Engineering. He could see the hustle and bustle going on. Each crewmen at their stations. The hum of the warp core, its blue haze lighting the area in front of him. Some people noticed him and smiles, while others just past him by, so focused on their duties.


With that Santiago made his way to the Office of the Chief Engineer, LT Calhoun. LT Calhoun was sitting behing his desk, looking into the computer screen that he didnt notice Santiago.

Santiago quickly walked up to his desk and said" Ensign Santiago reporting for duty, Sir!"

At first Calhoun was startled. He quickly recovered and pulled himself away from his desk.

"Well, Santiago....It's been awhile. How are you feeling?" said the Chief Engineer.

"Sir, I am just itching to get back into the swing of things. Im tired of being cooped up and hoinestly, I want to feel useful." said Santiago as he stared down at his feet.

"Well, its good to have my right hand man, back in business. We have alot of work to do" said Calhoun handing Santiago a PADD.

He put his arm around Santiago's shoulder and said "Dont worry, I will put you to good use, trust me. You'll be wishing Doc Gorman never released you from sickbay and gave you a clean bill of health"

"Just what I wanted to hear Sir" said Santiago with a smile
