Personality & Traits

General Overview Embry is easygoing, with a quiet sort of charisma that makes him immediately likeable. His superficial charms conceal a fierce resolve and determination to win. Embry considers himself to be a deeply principled man, willing to act decisively for what he believes in, but he prefers to convince others to do the acting for him. He doesn't see this as cowardice, but merely playing the role he's meant to play. Embry is the spark, and everyone else is gunpowder.

He's an excellent negotiator, able to talk people into anything, including himself. His ability to rationalize his behavior quite troubling, but of course, Embry doesn't see it that way. If you asked, he'd patiently and logically explain why his course of action is the *right* one. The fact that it also aligns almost perfectly with what Embry wants is just a coincidence.

Despite his flaws, Embry really does try to do the right thing. He's blind to his own failings and totally convinced by his own reasoning, but he isn't spiteful or malicious. He seeks influence only because he truly believes he's the one to responsibly wield it. He seeks a platform because he truly believes people need to hear what he has to say. And if the right thing means destroying property or hurting people, Embry will do it with a heavy heart, but he will do it.

Personal History Formerly a member of the Federation Diplomatic Corps, Arthur Embry quickly made a name for himself as a shrewd negotiator. He rose through the ranks quickly, and seemed to have a promising career ahead of him, with an ambassadorship of his choosing not too far off in his future. But scandal destroyed Embry's career before it could really begin: Embry was discovered illegally funneling weapons and medicine to a planetary militia during an attempted coup in the FARIS system. Embry maintained that he was only providing medicine to aid the resistance fighters against an oppressive government, and that he never dealt in weapons, but evidence was enough for a conviction. Embry was kicked out the Diplomatic Corps and spent 5 year in prison.

After his release, Embry became an outspoken opponent of the Federation, which he claimed supported oppressive, totalitarian regimes under the false promise of "galactic unity". Embry argued that planetary leadership under the Federation amounted to little more than puppet governments working in the service of Human, Vulcan, Tellarite and Andorian interests, and that Starfleet was not dedicated to exploration and advancement, but was simply the military arm of a bloated, corrupt government. He received a great deal of criticism for his writings and speeches, but his charisma and intelligence were enough to win him some followers, especially from colony worlds on the outskirts of Federation space.

Gradually, Embry began to associate with more extremist elements within his movement. He was implicated in a series of terrorist attacks on Federation starbases near the Romulan border, but his involvement was never proven and no charges were filed. Still, Embry was rapidly becoming unwelcome in Federation space. After several attempts on his life, Embry fled to the Triangle, where he continued to pen his anti-Federation literature. He made occasional trips to LIMBO to preach his beliefs, where he was watched closely by Tella Yavin, lest his anti-authority screed should shift in her direction. Embry happened to be aboard when LIMBO was evacuated. He used his contacts to ensure himself a spot aboard the only rescue ship available: the USS PHOENIX.
